Geotechnical Engineer vacancy: excellent opportunity at a successful SME Ground investigation company. This role is based in Burton upon Trent.

Overview
Our client provide specialist ground, environmental, structural and design services, providing support for developers, landowners and development projects across the UK. They are experts in providing solutions to ground and environmental hazards throughout a wide range of sectors, with the primary aim to maximise the potential of a site and, in doing so, the commercial return for clients.
As a Geotechnical Engineer at their head office in Burton upon Trent, you will be joining a company that takes pride in caring for their staff. Responsibilities (including but not limited to)

The design, supervision and management of site investigations including costing and procuring work from sub-contractors.

Geotechnical design, particularly for slope stability, settlement, retaining structures and reinforced earth. Earthworks specification, design and supervision.

Interpretative reporting (geotechnical and inter-related environmental).

Line Management and mentoring of less experienced technical staff.

Preparation of Health & Safety Documentation and assistance in the collation of all project related health and safety information.

Attendance at site meetings and acting as a point of contact for and liaising with clients.
Requirements

Minimum qualification of a degree in one of the Earth Sciences.

A minimum of 4 years’ relevant industry background, with at least 2 years each of geo-environmental fieldwork and geotechnical design and assessment (slope stability, settlement, retaining structures, earthworks and reinforced earth).

Willingness to work outside at all times of year and away from home and/or unsociable hours from time to time.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Strong interpersonal / team working skills, with a good working relationship at all levels of the organisation, clients and contractors.

Able to deal with and preferably enjoy the challenge of rapidly changing circumstances and requests from clients.

Ability to log soil and rock in accordance with the current British Standards.

Understanding of relevant UK regulatory guidance.

Background in the use of Holebase, CAD, QGIS, Slide and Geo5 an advantage (training will be provided).

First Aid, Asbestos Awareness and CSCS qualifications (training can be gained through the company)

Member of the Geological Society (or similar) and considering becoming Chartered.

Full UK Driving License essential (Category B manual gears).
